A Typical American Family: Senator Dole was the eldest of four children, pictured with his brother Kenny and sisters Gloria and Norma Jean. Their parents, Doran and Bina Dole (left) taught young Bob and their other children the importance of family and of hard work. His father worked long hours at the creamery, (a habit his son would soon adopt) and his mother, Bina, sold Singer sewing machines to help support the family. It was a modest, yet comfortable existence, typical of small-town America in the Depression years. |
