Pvt. Bob Dole, 1944

College student sat the beginning of the war were encouraged to stay in school because of the need for quailfied officer candidates. Bob Dole initially heeded but later ignored that advice, enlisting in 1944.

As a private, he initially went through training as an anti-tank gunner before being selected for officer candidate training.
