Soon after this picture was taken, these men would fight valiantly on Hill 913. Many would not return home.

Senator Dole is kneeling at the far left, in a light jacket, no helmet. Sgt. Ollie Manninen, who dragged Lt. Dole out of the machine gun fire, is in the top row, 3rd from left. Sgt. Frank Carafa, (lower left, no helmet) pulled him to safety. Pvt. Arthur McBryar (tallest man, 5th from right), stayed with Dole for more than six hours until help came.
