"Ascend
to Glory" This is similar terrain to the place where Bob Dole was wounded. On April 14, 1945, Dole's "I" company of the 85th regiment ran into intense enemy fire while attempting to take Hill 913. He wrote, "I could see my platoon's radioman (Eddie Sims) go down … After pulling his lifeless form into the foxhole, I scrambled back out again. As I did, I felt a sharp sting in my upper right back." The action would earn Lieutenant Dole the Bronze Star as well as the Purple Heart. |
