"A Tribute Long Overdue"

While veterans of other wars had their memorials in Washington, there was no memorial dedicated to all who served in World War II - overseas and on the home front. Bob Dole sought to fill that gap and make sure that an appropriate monument was built before too many more of the "greatest generation" passed away.

Serving as President of the World War II Memorial Commission, he took an active role in fundraising and building public support for the project. The picture at top left shows him visiting the site during the construction phase. The picture below shows him speaking at the May 2004 dedication.
